Growth Response of Ginger (Zingiber officinale), Its Physiological Properties and Soil Enzyme Activities after Biochar Application under Greenhouse Conditions

This study aimed to investigate the effects of biochar (1%, 2%, and 3%) on seed germination, plant growth, root morphological characteristics, physiological properties ginger (Zingiber officinale) soil enzymatic activities. Pot experiments under greenhouse conditions at 24 °C (day) 16 (night) showed after six weeks that additions 2% 3% significantly increased height, leaf length, number, as well shoot dry weights compared control. Total length by 30%, 47%, 74%, with increasing contents Root surface area, projected diameter, volume reached a maximum treatment. The treatment fluorescein diacetate hydrolase phenoloxidase activities 33% 59% control; so did addition biochar, which hydrolases, phenoloxidase, acid alkaline phosphomonoesterase activity in Treatment relative water content 8%, chlorophyll 35%, carotenoid 43% These results suggest can improve performance rhizome increase enzymes, thereby improving nutrient supply.
